43rd President, George W. Bush childhood home
Visit President George W. Bush childhood home is one of the unique area attractions, Opened on April 11, 2006, the home has been restored to the early 1950s and reflects the lives of the young family through exhibits and furnishings. Nowhere outside the United States have so many prominent political figures lived in one home – two presidents, two governors, first lady, ambassador and a CIA director. When to Visit: Tuesday–Saturday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sundays: 2 p.m.– 5 p.m. (Tours given until 4:30 PM) The museum is closed Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day & Easter Sunday. Admission Charged.
Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center
The Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center is an $81 million state-of-the-art, 108,000 square foot facility that features everything from Broadway productions to local plays, famous comedians and musicians, mariachis, and jazz. The Main hall includes 1,800 seats, two balconies with state-of-the art acoustics. Rea-Greathouse Hall is a versatile recital and multipurpose space for groups of up to 200. More than 10,000 square-feet of space house the Rea Music and Academic Center that expanded the UTPB music program. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy Living Legend, Rod Stewart, kicked off the inaugural Grand Gala Celebration on November 1, 2011, making this one of the top area attractions.
Rock Hounds Baseball Team, AA Oakland A's Affiliate
The Rock Hounds are a Double A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics and compete with teams in the Texas League. The Season begins in April and goes through September. The stadium also serves as a concert venue for stars such as Gary Allen. Baseball games make this a top area attraction for families.
William Blanton Blakemore Planetarium
William Blanton Blakemore Planetarium-The Blakemore Planetarium houses a state of the art Spitz SciDome projector, permanent exhibition area and a classroom. Dome shows are presented Tuesday through Saturday, followed by star talks. To book a tour or private dome show, please contact the Museum of the Southwest. Star Parties, hosted by the West Texas Astronomers, take place once a month, except in the summer.
Permian Basin Patroleum Museum
A visit to the Petroleum Museum is an amazing journey through over 230 million years of history. Located in the heart of the Permian Basin, the Petroleum Museum offers over 40,000 square feet of interactive education and entertainment for adventurers of all ages. It contains the largest collection petroleum related memorabilia in the world. When to Visit: Monday - Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sunday: 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday. Susie's South Forty Confection Candy Factory
If you've always wanted to visit a candy factory, this is your chance. Susie's South Forty Confection Candy Factory is the Guinness World Record-Holder for the largest piece of toffee ever created. Tours are available but the schedule is erratic. Please call ahead for details.
La Hacienda Event Center
La Hacienda Event Center in Midland hosts everything from big name Tejano bands to International DJ Super Stars such as Steve Aoki. They also have an amphitheater where they host events outside. Additionally, the venues are available to book for corporate events and weddings etc. If you're wanting to cut loose, this area attraction is for you.
Old Sorehead Trade Days
Old Sorehead Trade Days is the best little show in West Texas (if you can call 615 booths and 30,000 visitors "little"). Stanton hosts Trade Days twice a year, four days of wonderful shopping. Shows are scheduled the second weekend in April and October. Shows are Saturdays 9 AM to 6 PM and Sundays Noon to 5 PM. The RV Park is located less than a mile away.
Outback Adventure Track (ATV & Dirt Bike's)
Outback Adventure Track is an off-road Motorsports Park that welcomes dirt-bike and ATV riders of all ages and skill levels. They offer miles and miles of tight twisty trails, fast straightaways, jumps and a dry, sometimes wet lake bed. This attraction is fun for all ages.
Midland Horseshoe Amphitheater
West Texas' Largest Premier Venue, The Horseshoe Arena – Pavilion - Amphitheater, has hosted over 3,000 events and 2 million guests since opening in 2006. This Multi-Award-Winning Venue has played host to Championship rodeos, equestrian competitions, concerts, sporting events, trade shows, conventions, community events and wedding receptions.
Martin County Library
Opened in 2008, the Martin County Library is housed in a large 6,600 sq. ft. building. The collection of the library contains 25,445 volumes. The library circulates 19,324 items per year. The library serves a population of 4,934 residents . Internet connected computers are available for use.
